COMMERCIAL BANKING

 

28 years of experience as lender, branch manager, regional manager, and as CEO of 3 separate banks in CA, NM and CO. Was a corporate developer and founded Wells Fargo Mortgage Company, which became the country’s largest. Served on six bank boards of directors.

 

INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

 

Served as New Mexico State Treasurer, appointed by Governor to fix a scandal-ridden agency. Appointed trustee of seven foundations, managing  portfolios in excess of $60 billion. Ran board meetings of the New Mexico State Investment Council.

 

CORPORATE and NON-PROFIT GOVERNANCE

 

Served on 18 boards of directors in banking, public utility, manufacturing, oil and gas, insurance brokerage, internet, and land development companies. Was lead director of California Water Service (listed on NYSE) for 12 years. Served on 14 state government boards and commissions and over 30 non-profit boards, chairing 18.

MARKETING

 

Directed marketing for all of Wells Fargo Bank, including advertising, product development, market research, public relations, and product launches. Founded and grew Talbot Financial Services to the largest distributor of bank annuity products with $2B in sales. Sold to SAFECO. Developed Private College 529 Plan from six colleges to 300, earning Business Week’s“New Product of the Year” designation.

HIGHER EDUCATION

 

Holds AB and MBA degrees from Stanford. Ranked in top 5% of MBA class. Served as Trustee of Stanford University and as Head of the Board of Regents at the University of New Mexico. For 5 years was Dean of the Anderson School of Management at University of New Mexico. Upon retirement, was accorded title of Dean Emeritus.
